Climate and Energy
Affordable energy and a future-focused climate policy are important for all EU-citizens. In January 2014, the European Commission has therefore proposed the new climate- and energy goals for 2030.
This climate-and energy package aims to achieve a more competitive, secure and sustainable energy system in the EU, all while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The EU is currently working on the details of the climate-and energy package for 2030. The European Commission launched an European Energy Union on 25 February 2015. The European Commission wants to ensure a coordinated approach between the member-states, and review the European regulation on European energy policy.
Sustainable economic growth
The Dutch provinces are responsible for spatial planning and the regional economy. Our goal is to achieve sustainable economic growth. One of the important pillars to sustainable growth is energy transition. This transition strives for low energy usage and renewable energy from wind energy, solar energy, biomass, etc.
We recommend the following binding EU-goals in order to continue and strengthen this transition to sustainable energy:
- Energy saving
- Renewable energy
- Reduction of CO2 emissions
