Biography
Dirk Frouws has been EU Public Affairs Advisor in Brussels since September 2020, where he represents the interests of the Northern Netherlands together with Mara Bubberman. Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland are together with the municipalities of Assen, Emmen, Groningen, Leeuwarden and Súdwest-Fryslân united in the Northern Netherlands Alliance (SNN). Within SNN’s Public Affairs team, Dirk is responsible for maintaining ties between the northern provinces, the five northern municipalities and the European institutions. He does this regarding the priorities of mobility, agriculture and regional economy. In addition, Dirk is the contactperson for both our own provincial and municipal employees and for third parties.
Career
Prior to his current position, Dirk worked in various positions at the European Parliament from 2014 to 2019 and at a Public Affairs Consultancy in Brussels from 2019 to 2020. Dirk holds a bachelor’s degree in European Studies from Maastricht University and a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Florence. In addition to his native language Dutch, he also speaks English, Italian, Spanish and French.
